NPD June 2014: PS4 Beats Xbox One Despite $399 Bundle, Watch Dogs & Mario Kart 8 Continue Dominance

Research firm NPD has revealed their sales figure for the month of June 2014, and as expected its Playstation 4 that beats Xbox One despite $399 Kinectless Bundle, for 6th month in a row, an astonishing feat for Sony and Playstation family.

As per the details revealed by NPD analyst Liam Callahan, overall retail sales were 24% year over year, hardware sales were up 106% as compared to previous year and software sales were down 3% year over year.

Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs was the top selling title in June 2014, followed by Mario Kart 8 and Minecraft. You can check out the top 10 list below:

  3. Minecraft (360, PS3)
  4. UFC (PS4, Xbox One)

  7. Wolfenstein: The New Order (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, PC)
  8. Call of Duty: Ghosts (360, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Wii U, PC)
  9. Tomodachi Life (3DS)
  10. Grand Theft Auto V (360, PS3)

Few other facts:

  • Mario Kart 8 took second place despite being release on just one platform. It sold 470,000 physical and digital copies in June, and was the top-selling games on any one system, even beating Watch Dogs on Playstation 4.
  • Combined sales of Xbox One and PS4 are over 80 percent higher than the combined totals for Xbox 360 and PS3

These results reinforce the power of the Mario Kart franchise and speak to a bright future for the Wii U platform,” Nintendo of America executive vice president of sales and marketing Scott Moffitt said. “History has shown that Mario Kart games tend to have an extremely long tail. We fully expect Mario Kart 8 to continue to drive momentum for our hardware and software business through the holidays and into the foreseeable future.”

We now have a comment from Sony, who says PS4 was #1 in sales (for US) for sixth consecutive month, and remains cumulative leader.
Sony also says it was the top console for next gen titles, including Watch_Dogs, UFC, FIFA 14. #NPD
